About Us

North American Turf is a family owned and operated sod farm located a few miles northwest of Ingalls in Southwest Kansas. We started our business in 1998 with 6 acres of grass, a walk behind sod cutter, a pickup, a trailer and lots of fortitude to carryon. All of the fortitude was needed with the work created with the walk behind sodcutter, and it was decided there had to be something better and more efficient. We became the proud owners of a tractor and sodcutter that took away a lot of the hard labor.

We still use that sodcutter bought in 1999, and we can cut a semi load in less than 2 hours (vs. 10 hours of more with the walk behind). We now have several times more acres in sod and everything is under pivot sprinkler irrigation.

The primary objectives of North American Turf are to supply a superior grass sod, make and keep satisfied customers and to do this at profit. WE Have Been Successful!

North American Turf is a Kansas Department of Agriculture Licensed Sod Farm. Every year our grass is inspected for noxious weeds, disease and insects. We have never been rejected and we are always in good standing with the State of Kansas. We are also approved for distribution in Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas.

North American Turf uses only Sod Quality grass seed. Sod Quality is the highest grade of seed you can buy. Nothing less will do, as this is the start of our Superior Sod Quality. We strive to plant at the optimum time to get the best germination of grass seed and the least amount of weed pressure. We are good at this, and we end up with weed free sod.

We also plant a higher rate of seed than some of the competitors. You are insured of a dense sod when we do this. Regular fertilizer applications throughout the growing season farther enhance the quality of sod by establishing the dark green color and stimulating the maximum of amount of root growth. We mow on a regular basis, with the goal of not removing more than 1 inch and leaving the grass at 3 inches tall. We mulch mow all of the grass. Doing this helps us reduce fertilizer costs, and the savings are passed on to you.

We try to cut sod for you at the optimum time to keep grass stress at a minimum. (This is why we ask for a 2 day notice before pickup). If the grass is not stressed to a great extent, you won't be either. It is just easier to get good root establishment on the new sod when everyone does the work correctly.

As you can tell, just about everything we do at North American Turf is to maintain and grow our good relationships with our customers. We want you to be one of them.
